چکیده
DESCRIPTION Cardiac involvement is uncommon (0.02–2%) in hydatid disease and the most common location is in the left ventricle, followed by interventricular septum and right ventricle. The clinical presentation of hydatid disease depends on the location of the cysts, and diagnosis is usually made by CT and/or high-resolution MRI. We are presenting an extremely rare manifestation of hydatid disease in the pericardial sac. Our patient 78-year-old woman of South-Asian descent presented with non-specific chest pain, and we are presenting the striking diagnostic images of a rare manifestation of hydatid disease obtained through the multiplanar capabilities of 64 slice CT scanner, which demonstrates the anatomical details, calcifications and internal architecture of this rare disease in an uncommon location (figures 1–3). Abdominal ultrasonographic evaluation revealed no other cystic lesion either in the liver or other abdominal organs. Multidetector CT scanner has the capability of defining the disease in all planes and with its spatial and temporal resolution can achieve diagnostic information on par with MRI scanning. Multiplanar CT also carries the added advantage of being more sensitive in picking up

Isolated Pericardial Hydatid Cyst
Cardiac hydatid cyst is an uncommon disease, mostly involving the myocardium. Involvement of the pericardium or isolated pericardial hydatid cysts are extremely rare and therefore can mimic other pericardial cystic diseases. Herein we present the radiological and surgical findings of an asymptomatic isolated pericardial hydatid cyst
متن کاملComparison of Image Quality of Low Voltage 64-slice Multidetector CT Angiography with the Standard Condition in Patients Suspected of Pulmonary Embolism
Introduction: Reduction of peak kilovoltage (kV) setting has been a useful approach to d creating radiation dose; however, it may have varied effects on noise and the accuracy of diagnosis. Thus, we compared image quality between low (80 kV) and standard kilovoltage (100 kV) protocols. Material and Methods: This triple blind non-randomized parallel quasi-experimental study was conducted on 140 ...
متن کاملComputed tomography findings in cerebral hydatid disease.
AIM To describe imaging findings of cerebral hydatid cysts on computed tomography of brain. MATERIAL AND METHODS We retrospectively reviewed CT scans of brain in 5 patients with pathologically confirmed hydatid cysts in cerebral hemispheres. The patients were scanned either on a spiral (single slice) CT or on multidetector-row CT before and after intravenous injection of iodinated contrast ma...
متن کاملCardiac Tamponade by Hydatid Pericardial Cyst: A Rare Case Report
INTRODUCTION Hydatid cysts are most commonly found in the liver and lungs but they are rarely found in pericardium. CASE PRESENTATION We present a rare case of isolated hydatid cyst in pericardium of heart of a 70 year old female presented in casualty with unusual features like, dyspnea, palpitation and chest pain mimicking acute coronary syndrome. DISCUSSION Hydatid cyst in Pericardium rep...
متن کاملBilious pericardial effusion at initial presentation in a patient with lung cancer
BACKGROUND: Cardiac tamponade as the initial manifestation of metastatic cancer is a rare clinical entity. Furthermore, a thoraco-biliary fistula is another rare complication of echinococcosis due to rupture of hydatid cysts located at the upper surface of the liver to the pleural or pericardial cavity. We report a case of non-small cell lung cancer with a coexisting hepatic hydatid cyst presen...
